ROSS SMITH

One of the highest scoring players in the world of darts, Ross Smith became a PDC major winner for the first time in 2022. ‘Smudger’ had a week to remember at the 2022 European Championship, beating Michael Smith 11-8 in the final to join the roll of honour of PDC major champions.

Smith threw an astonishing 19 scores of 180 in a third-round clash in the 2023 PDC World Championship, equalling the individual record for a match played over the best of seven sets. The Dover man won a second PDC ProTour title of his career in March 2023 – a victory which helped him move into the top 16 of the world rankings for the first time.

A third career ProTour tournament success followed in Players Championship 28, in October 2023, as Smith further showcased his talent on the professional circuit. Shop our collection of Ross Smith darts from Unicorn here!

Ross Smith FAQ’s

Is Ross Smith still playing darts?

The 2023 season marked the first time that Ross Smith has won multiple titles on the PDC’s main tour. ‘Smudger’ got the better of Gary Anderson 8-6 in the final of Players Championship 5, before doubling his tally with a victory by the same scoreline against Damon Heta, in the Players Championship 28 final later in the year.

The first of those tournament wins saw Smith climb into the top 16 on the PDC Order of Merit for the first time in his career. He qualified for the 2024 PDC World Championship as the 16th seed – his highest seeding ever for a World Championship campaign.

What darts does Ross Smith use now?

The darts Ross Smith currently uses are his signature Unicorn Ross Smith Two Tone Black & Gold Darts in 22g. Smith’s signature darts feature a black and gold titanium coating, with black at the rear and gold at the front of the barrels.

The 90% tungsten barrels are complete with Unicorn Gripper black shafts, signature Unicorn Ross Smith Ultrafly flights and Unicorn Volute gold points. The Volute points offer excellent grip in the dartboard, whilst not leaving any damage to the Sisal when retrieved after each throw.

How old is Ross Smith?

Born on January 12, 1989, Ross Smith celebrated his 34th birthday at the start of 2023 – a year which also saw him make his debut in the PDC Masters. This is a major tournament that is exclusive to the top 24 players in the PDC rankings, with Smith starting the season ranked number 17 in the world.

Smith’s first appearances in PDC events dates as far back as 2005 – then at the young age of just 16 – before switching to the BDO circuit and qualifying for their World Championship in 2009. Two years after making his debut at the Lakeside, ‘Smudger’ made his mark with a run to the quarter-finals.

He returned to the PDC in 2012, qualifying for the 2013 Grand Slam of Darts and 2014 PDC World Championship, before taking a break from the sport in 2017. Smith won back his PDC tour card via Q-School the following year and has been a regular on the main circuit ever since, winning his first ProTour title in 2021 and a memorable first major at the 2022 European Championship.

Ross Smith Career Highlights

Ross Smith struck perfection at the 2013 Gibraltar Darts Trophy with a nine-dart leg. ‘Smudger’ threw the perfect leg of darts during his second-round clash against the two-time world champion Adrian Lewis. In the seventh leg of the match, he threw back-to-back 180s followed by a 141 finish.

In late 2022, Ross Smith fulfilled his potential by becoming a PDC major champion for the first time in his career. After edging past Chris Dobey 11-9 in the semi-finals, ‘Smudger’ beat Michael Smith 11-8 in the final to win the European Championship. His reward for winning the title was £120,000 which moved him to the brink of a place in the world’s top 16.

In October 2023, Ross Smith doubled up for PDC titles for the year with a victory in Players Championship 28. He saw off Australia’s Damon Heta 8-6 in the final to scoop the £12,000 top prize and cement his position in the top 16 of the PDC rankings.
